I wanted to share something with you.
My mom just passed last Tuesday, April 4th. It as a long struggle with dementia for about 10-12 years…and then she fell 2 years ago this past February and never recovered from the fall. And then…the last two weeks, she took a turn for the worse… and it was almost unbearable. So, it was a sweet release for my family to be able to let her go “home”! We’ll see her again!
Well…she always wanted “When They Ring Those Golden Bells” sung at her funeral. I am a pianist and my husband and kids are great vocalists…but that song, much like many of the old hymns, is very wordy…and just has some nuances in it that are not your typical hymn…
We just couldn’t get it together fast enough… I knew the song…my husband was a little familiar with it… but our kids have both grown up with mostly contemporary worship. So they sure didn’t know what the song was or what it sounded like.
So I began my search on youtube and stumbled across your version from Bluegrass Gospel Favorites. Oh my…what a great version you came up with that song!! The funeral directors bought the song and burned it on CD to be played at the funeral home. They gave us the CD.
Well…you know how a one song CD just plays itself over and over and over again in a car’s CD player….
I was driving my dad about 20 miles away from his home the other day for us to get out of his house and go get a burger…just a little change of scenery after the dust had settled from so many friends and family being at the funeral…
Well…I told him, “Let me get that CD…”
It played once…and then began to play again. I told him, “Let me take it out or it is just going to keep playing.” He said, “No, that’s okay. Let’s just let it play.” Well…20 miles away…and a 3 minute song…I’ll let you figure out the math…. We listened to it over and over again…until we reached our destination! Haha! I told my sister….tongue in cheek… we rang the hell out of them golden bells! Hahaha!
So…today…I bought him the rest of the CD off of itunes so he won’t listen to one song over and over.
And the entire album is beautiful!!
So glad we stumbled across y’all on youtube.
Thanks so much for your beautiful rendition of “Those Golden Bells…” It was a great compliment to Mom’s funeral to honor her as she wished!
Blessings your way!

Hi Kris, Dale, Margaret and all you other pluckers,
Merry Christmas! (And a Happy new Year, too!)
I still have fond memories of seeing y'all at the Fall Homecoming back in the 1980's. We've been listening to your Christmas CD - still my daughter's favorite (AND mine!). I hope life is treating all of you very well. Wishing you all the best and compliments of the season, Tom Draughon

I liked your performance associated with Chet Atkins many years ago. Possibly on Austin City Limits. You guys did a number or two without Chet and then one with him called "Nagasaki". I don't even know if the personel in your group has changed in the intervening years.

I listen to American Bluegrass station on the internet or my smartphone almost every day. I have heard several of your songs, and they always make me look to see who is this that sounds so great, both vocals and the instruments. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but I just plain like it.

I just heard and played your rendition of "When They Ring Those Golden Bells." My husband and I both cried. It was absolutely beautiful. We are thinking about playing this for his brother's service. We also want to buy the CD so we can listen and play whenever we want to. Thank you for such beautiful music.
